Bulgaria has begun constructing two nuclear reactors using Westinghouse's AP1000 technology, with South Korea's Hyundai leading the construction. The project, which is now deemed "irreversible," involves an initial contract worth $350 million. Electricity production from the first reactor is targeted for 2034, with the overall project estimated to exceed $14 billion. Funding is expected to include up to $8 billion from the U.S. Exim Bank and additional financing from South Korean institutions. Bulgaria also plans to sell two unused Russian reactors to Ukraine for $700 million to support this venture.
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) is exploring the use of small modular reactors, including China’s Linglong One, to support its low-carbon energy goals. Egat is also collaborating with the Education Ministry to integrate nuclear technology into school curriculums, aiming to increase public awareness and acceptance of nuclear energy.

Recycling Technology
Los Angeles County has filed a lawsuit against PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, accusing them of misleading consumers by promoting their plastic products as recyclable despite their limited recyclability and contribution to plastic pollution. The lawsuit, filed on October 30th, argues that claims of a "circular economy" are deceptive, as plastic bottles can only be recycled once before degrading. In response, the American Beverage Association defends the companies, highlighting California's high bottle recycling rate. However, waste experts maintain that recycling alone cannot address the scale of plastic waste, emphasizing the need for stricter regulation and corporate accountability.
